Veteran actor Poornam Viswanathan passes away

Veteran character artiste Poornam Viswanathan passed away in Chennai on Wednesday after a brief illness. Mr. Viswanathan is survived by his wife, son and two daughters.

Poornam Vishwanathan was a Tamil News reader with All India Radio who announced India attaining freedom in his news bulletin in 1947. He later on went on to become a good character artiste and theatre person. Mr. Viswanathan’s performance in films such as ‘Varusham 16,’ ‘Keladi Kanmani,’ ‘Aasai,’ ‘Mahanadi’ and ‘Varumaiyin Niram Sivappu’ are unforgettable. He was at ease in both comedy and melodrama.

The 87-year-old actor died of multiple organ failure at a private hospital, hospital sources said.
